INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
OPEN HOUSE 2008

International
School held its Open House 2008 for the parents of its students on
two consecutive Thursday evenings in October. Miss Balbina Munoz,
technical director of the school, opened the evening, offering a warm
welcome to attendees. She stressed the staff’s mission to work with
students and their families to achieve the most effective educational
experience with the cooperation of all partners. In this vein, she urged
parents to turn to the staff for any issue, concern, or need that might
arise during the school year. The school’s academic director, Miss
Yvonne Leonard, echoed this message, visualizing the coordinated effort
as a triangle, where the student is at the top and the parents and
teachers work together in tandem to form a sturdy, secure base for the
child.
In this effort,
the school staff offered suggestions to maximize the child’s experience
and education at school. These points included stressing limits and
responsibilities both at school and at home, teaching them to win and to
lose, inculcating a love of reading by doing so out loud together at
home and also encouraging it as a solitary activity, maintaining a
healthy and varied diet, getting enough sleep at night, eating a proper
breakfast before leaving the house in the morning, motivating the child,
and being involved in school and its activities/events.
After speeches,
the teachers were presented, and then parents went off to respective
classrooms to learn in detail about their child’s daily academic routine
under their teachers’ guidance. After about an hour with the teachers,
parents gathered with staff to enjoy snacks and coffee while taking
advantage to ask further questions to teachers and catch up with fellow
parents.
