Today we are afraid of simple words like goodness and mercy and kindness. We don´t believe in the good old words because we don´t believe in the good old values anymore. Joe Louis used to say that “every man´s got to figure to get beat sometime”. But remember…to be vanquished and yet not surrender, that is victory.

INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL is a school of values.

The 17th MINIOLYMPICS of the INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL was celebrated on Valentine´s Day in the Marymount stadium. The packed audience included students, parents, friends and lots of former members of the International School community. This staying in touch is one of the things I like most about the school, people leave but they always come back to say hello, drop notes, write letters, and attend events when they´re here.

Profr. Uxmal Lozano did a great job of organizing; a police escort drove alongside the sixth graders who ran with the torch all the way to Marymount stadium from INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL. The last student to enter with the torch was top sportsman, Colum Malcolmson who lit the main torch which marked the initiation of the activities. Soldiers from the 24a. Military Zone presented honors to the flag with great solemnity, Andrea Urbina, outstanding scholar, recited the “Athletes Pledge” and accompanied by applause and loud cheers, Profr. Uxmal Lozano formally inaugurated the event

The warm-ups, an all-student participation, was spectacular. The Miniolympics was composed of competitions in soccer, shot-put, long jump and the 100 meters and 75 meters track events. At the end, parents and teachers also sweat it out, giving it their all and winning, too, their gold, silver and bronze medals.

INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL was one of the first institutions to achieve a successful Miniolympic event and it has never skipped a year. The school philosophy encourages students to love sports and respect the discipline and the dignity needed to reach their goals along with the fact that they are building a healthy body, while having fun and learning the important lesson of team work.

Ask any of the boys and girls, with wide smiles and sparkling eyes, they explain:… “Winning and losing is not all that important, it´s the doing… doing together and giving it your very best.”
