Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS). Cuernavaca, Mexico.                           1999-Present

Researcher

Oversee all reproductive health and health economics research activities. Coordinate a longitudinal research study that compares the Pap test to HPV testing for the detection of cervical cancer. Designed the questionnaires that are being used to collect information from the study participants. Trained interviewers to appropriately apply the questionnaires, supervise the data collection and analysis activities. Oversee the economic evaluation of a national intervention to improve family medicine services at IMSS.

Designed, implemented and supervised various projects including a national survey of family planning services in Mexico, a social marketing program to distribute oral contraceptive pills at the community level, and a first-of-its-kind telephone hotline to provide family planning and reproductive health information.

Research Director/Community Health Programs Representative

Developed and conducted various research projects at a community clinic, including patient education and satisfaction surveys, patient flow analysis, quality control of clinic services, and a cohort study on the effects of Norplant. Planned, implemented and evaluated clinic projects as a Title X Intern, supervised the abnormal Pap clinic activities. Family Planning and HIV Pre- and Post-test Counselor.

Research Assistant

Participated in a study on the accessibility and use of prenatal care services in California.  Conducted extensive interviews with post-partum women in Los Angeles, to survey their pregnancy and prenatal care.  Helped code and analyze the data obtained.

Conducted a qualitative analysis of the reproductive attitudes and behaviors of the members of a rural community in Mexico.  Presented the preliminary findings at the 1994 APHA conference in Washington, D.C.
