Strength
and courage is your divine birthright and with blessings, peace, of spirit
and mind,
harmony and joy you will build your life to express your true self. If I
were to use one word to qualify the essence of the International School it
would be excellence. Over 30 years of dedicated, directed, researched,
advanced, bilingual teaching.
Money
earned is money spent, invested back into materials, equipment, books,
workshops, maintenance and when needed, remodeling.
I love
it because it’s small enough for every child ‘s name, quirks, likes, and
when it’ s time for his allergy medicine and still large enough to be a
community. And community it is: teachers, students, staff and parents
form a tight-knit group who face problems, find solutions, create events
and maintain an atmosphere of positive thinking and mutural trust.
International School has produced, for thirty years, prize-winning,
award-winning, academic-winning, bilingual students in city, state and
national zone tests. The prestigious Marymount Alianza plaque was awarded
to Lic. Yvonne Leonard to honor her work as an educator and the entire
school for its continuous, outstanding achievements. Note I use the word
continuous… it started out good and has stayed good for over a quarter of
a century. No easy task.
Today
Carousel congratulates the 2003 graduates. The traditional ceremony is
always a moving event. Caps and gowns and shy smiles and sweaty hands and
stammering voices and audible sighs of relief when the speech has been
delivered and no mistakes made.. getting in front of a microphone be it
Kinder or Sexto Grado is a scary situation, an unforgettable moment in any
child’s life. It also adds to the forever moments in the memory bank and
is worth every moment of the memorizing, the preparation the allout
effort. So to the children who stood up there in front of all those
people and recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag (David Abner Ortiz
Jimenez), The Farewell Speeches, representing their classmates for
Kindergarten Isaac Yael Hernandez Herrera and Valeria Guillen Campos. For
Primary, Sixth Grade graduates Lyanne Gwendolin Aguilar Hernandez, and
Egidio Barrera Gascon, my deepest thanks for creating a memorable moment
and felicitations for your outstanding scholastic records.
Miss
Lucia was the Mistress of Ceremonies and things, moved like clockwork.
Ing. Maria Isabel Hernandez Vivar, spoke to the graduates in a soft, kind
yet deeply meaningful way, Lic. Yvonne Leonard in her speech to the
graduates spoke about the achievements of some of the exgraduates
including her first student: Dra. Yvonne Flores Leonard, recently
graduated from John Hopkins University. Lic. Yvonne spoke about Samantha
Pratt Limon earning a scholarship to the University of the Americas,
Miguel Gonzalez Martin for his Masters in New Zealand, Gautham Nair making
minds jump at Cal Tech in California and this knowing and keeping tabs on
ex-students, this being there for them is her trademark and stern or not,
this lion of an educator is a pussy-cat when it comes to keeping the
extended family close. She cares and it shows and it’s been visible
since the first day she opened the doors of International School. Caring
combined with knowledge, know-how, absolute integrity and honesty is a
formula for wiseness and successful enterprises. To Lic. Yvonne Leonard,
her staff, her students and The International School, warm applause for
another successful school year.
