CHRISTMAS 2003
The year 2003 ended with a great
success when all children participated in our traditional Christmas
festivities. There was the usual “pastorela” and a living “nacimiento”
with our best sixth grade students. This was presented in Spanish and the
story of certain traditions were exposed such as the “pesebre”, “piñata”
and “Christmas tree”.
Kinder also participated with
different songs: Jingle Bells, Frosty the Snowman and The First Noel.
The set and all the costumes were very good and made you feel you were
somewhere in the North where winter and snow are present. First and
second graders sang “Friendly Beasts”, all primary “Oh Christmas Tree” and
performed the play “The Night Before Christmas”. All these numbers were
presented in English and “Campanas de Belen” in Spanish. Some children
wished merry Christmas in different languages such as Chinese, Hebrew,
Italian, German, Indian, French and English. At the very end, everybody
sang “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”, “Silent Night” and “Feliz Navidad”,
always combining both the English language and the Spanish language as a
truly bilingual school.
Afterwards, all children, parents,
guests and teachers had a wonderful time at our Christmas Kermesse where
delicious Mexican food such as buñuelos, café de olla, ponche and other
foods were offered to earn funds to buy materials for the school.
NEW YEAR 2004
This New Year 2004, INTERNATIONAL
SCHOOL shared roscas and chocolate milk with its students and teachers.
Children also broke the traditional “piñatas” which were made by every
group in December. All piñatas were filled with fruit and candies so it
was a lot of fun on this first day of class, January 7.
Next on January 19, INTERNATIONAL
SCHOOL celebrated the “Blessing of the Animals”. This is the day
dedicated to San Antonio Abad who protected all animals. INTERNATIONAL
SCHOOL believes children should have love for animals, to be tender,
gentle and caring. We promote all children to have pets, any type of pet
that they can afford to share in their lives at home. So children came
January 19 with their pets such as: dogs, a Siamese cat, turtles, fish,
hamsters, a rabbit, a green iguana and Australian birds. A Catholic
priest from the Cuernavaca Cathedral gave them the blessing.
On January 22, INTERNATIONAL
SCHOOL had the honor that its academic advisor, Miss Yvonne, was invited
to give a talk on bilingual education to personnel of IOWA State
University. The talk was a great success.
In January INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
did its altruistic project and children gave CASA TATIC new toys and
clothes for their children. Sharing is a very important value which we
try to teach to all our students and as well to be compassionate. Also a
talk was given to our sixth graders regarding values to reinforce them
with respect to honesty, self-esteem and respect.
